Notes for Artemesia CARTER
Pleasant left to Artemesia the following slaves: Nancy,
George, John, Lucinda, Eliza, Charles, Mat, and John
Brooks. Also land containing over 900 acres where they
resided at his death. Other properties were: 6 subtantial
work horses or mules
of her selection, 16 head of cattle, 25 head of stock and
15 head of fattening hogs, Ten sheep and a liberal
allowance of plantation provisions of every description for
her establishment for one year datinf from the day of my
death. Together with
the Smith and plantation tools. [Barouch] and harness,
wagon and gear and my entire household and kitchen
furniture. He authorized his wife to give his unmarried
childrn upon their marriage such household articles of
equal value to all. He also
stipulates that his children residing with their mother
shall be permitted to cultivate parts of the land not
needed by his wife for her annual use, His wife having
first choice of land.
Artemesia's estate paid out 20.47 to the following: D. C.
Bullock and wife, L. P. Burnett, T. J. Burnett; C. C.
Burnett; M. A. W. Burnett; J. M.C. Burnett; S.A.E.
Burnett; [D.G.?] Burnett; Nancy [Morris]; William
Wheeler and his wife in full recieved 22.39; S. A. E.
Burnett recieved an additional 5.80; A. P. Burnett
received 4.09
A total of 482.31 was paid for property at estate sale on
Dec. 10, 1856.
